engaging. Based on decades’ or fieldwork in Africa, the book examines questions about states in Africa, the African unity, environmental awareness and governance in Africa, and the power of international environmental agencies in Africa. At the heart of this study, Death shows that “the most vulnerable in society are able to exercise agency,” and “there are sites of resistance everywhere.” The Sprout Committee considers the book “an instant classic.”
