Ken Conca wins Sprout Award for Governing Water (MIT Press)

This is the first time that a book has won both the Harold and Margaret Sprout Award and an award of another ISA section. The International Organization section also awarded Ken with the 2006 Chadwick F. Alger Award. Follow the “Sprout Award” link on the left to access the complete list of Sprout Awards.

Rachel DeMotts and Diana Post receive Graduate Student Paper Award

This year two graduate students received the section’s award for their papers presented at last year’s convention. Rachel DeMotts (U. Wisconsin Madison) for Participating in Conservation: Governing on the Ground in the Great Limpopo National Park and Diana Post (UC Berkeley) for Precaution vs Risk in the International Arena: The Case of Codex Alimentarius. The papers are available from the online ISA paper archive.

Dear ESS Members:
I hope this message finds you in good spirits and looking forward to summer. For those of you who made it to San Diego, I assume you had a fine time despite the peculiar venue. For those who were unable to come, I presume we will see you next year in Chicago (brrr1). The minutes of the ESS Business meeting are available online, including a list of Sprout Award nominees. A few additional points:

  1. If you have not paid your membership dues lately, I encourage you to re-up. Don’t forget to tick off membership in the Section;
